Santorini Sightseeing

Explore Santorini’s rugged beauty and let this island shaped by its unique geology and history reveal itself in unexpected ways.

It may be the most photographed and photogenic island, but to really understand Santorini enroll for an engaging, fascinating and information-packed tour of the island. It is not just facts, figures and dates, but also a lot of fun moments, trivia, hiking, sailing, shopping, wine-tasting and food-pairing.

Bespoke tours crafted to cater to different tastes and interests – from the sporty, outdoorsy tourist to the ‘thinking, drinking traveller’ and curious customer – to add value to your Santorini stay. Create your own Santorini story as complex and structured as the island’s famed wines at one of Santorini’s celebrated vineyards and discover all about Greek wine renaissance pioneered by Santorini’s intrepid viticulturists through Blue Shades of Greece’s wine tours.

Pause at Megalochori and Fira, archetypal Hellenic villages, with glorious views of the Aegean, or Oia, with its terraced vantage-point; meander through Imerovigli to take part in a justly celebrated Santorini ritual, watching the sunset! Trek up to the highest point on Skaros and walk from Imerovigli to Oia, atop charred volcanic cliffs dusted with a snowy jumble of villages; take a cruise to get a different perspective of Santorini’s burnt facade or swim in the fathomless blue waters at the foot of the precipice. If culture is your thing, opt for the tour that covers Akrotiri, the archaeological site with an impressively preserved pre-historic settlement and the Prehistoric Museum in Fira.

Thanks to its rich history, Santorini provides visitors with amazing archaeological and historical sites. We highly recommend visiting the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, which owes its well-preserved state to the lava and ash it was buried under for centuries. Some archaeologists even believe that Akrotiri is connected to the Lost Continent of Atlantis. Not to be missed, the archaeological site of Ancient Thira is home to the remains of sanctuaries, houses, a theatre, a stoa and a gymnasium. The view from Ancient Thira is similarly magical.

The ruins of the Venetian Castle ‘Skaros’ are located close to the Astra Suites Hotel in Imerovigli. It was at this castle that Duke Marco Sanudo raised the Venetian flag when the island was conquered in 1207. It is also worth visiting any of the wonderful monasteries and churches scattered throughout the island, as well as the Archaeological, Folklore or Prehistoric Thira Museums in Fira, or the Maritime Museum in Oia.

Santorini Touring & Sailing

Santorini is the perfect size to spend a day touring and taking in the local scenery, sights and world-famous vineyards. For nautical lovers, a day trip by boat to the volcanic islets of Nea Kameni, Palea Kameni and Thirassia, just across Santorini, and to be able to swim in their hot springs, is an experience not to be missed.
