Astra Luxury Suites Hotel Santorini - Santorini Hotel Reviews & Press
Condé Nast Johansens:Most Romantic Hotel for 2013
Astra Suites won the title of Most Romantic Hotel in the world during the Condé Nast Johansens annual awards dinner held recently in London where the winners of the 2013 Awards for Excellence were revealed.
Condé Nast Johansens publishes the leading guides to the best hotels, spas and venues in the UK, Europe and the Americas.
Santorini has more than three hundred and fifty hotels, dozens lining the edge of the caldera and creeping down the side of it. The Astra, once a good little hotel with blue curtains and rustic wood furniture, has evolved into a great little hotel with designer flair. I sit on my terrace, filtering the last rays of the evening sun through a glass of white wine. From almost a thousand feet above the sea, I look out at the Caldera, whose violent formation may have been the source of the myth of Atlantis. I'm awestruck, as I'm every time by its overpowering beauty. There is no intervention by man, note the encroachment of more white cubes along the caldera's lip nor the coming and going of ferryboats in the basin far below, that could detract from its majesty.
... Astra Apartments & Suites. Located close to the main town, Fira, this property offers amazing views of the Caldera. There are 16 apartments and 6 luxury suites, some with plunge pools and Jacuzzis ...

Built in Imerovigli, on the highest point of the steep cliff face, Astra has long been considered one of the top accommodation choices on the island. The decor and the amenities exceed your expectations, and are the perfect backdrop to your summer dreams.
Whitewashed walls, stone-tiled floors, and a cliffside location make this intimate inn in the Cyclades Islands a classic. The steps that lead from the street to the front door are seemingly endless, but the panorama is worth the hike. From either the terraced pool or your private balcony, the views across the caldera (of toy-size ferries on the blue Aegean sea) are among the most spectacular in the islands. They are especially good at sunset, so have a bottle of local retsina and wine-glasses on hand - and a plate ready to break, of course, in the Greek tradition of celebration. Opa!
In Santorini there is no shortage of beautiful places to stay, but Astra Apartments and Suites has unfair advantages. Its dramatic cliffside setting overlooks a sleeping volcano, and it has down-to-the-last-detail manager George Karayiannis at the helm. Ask George to arrange a sailing trip to the volcano, horseback riding, a private winery tour or a private tour with an archeologist to the Akrotiri excavations. Or-like a celebrity guest recently did - indulge in a whim: Order 2,000 roses for your suite. Greece's answer to Madonna, Anna Vissi, stays often. The property has 16 apartments and six suites, and we recommend the 753-square-foot Deluxe Astra Pool Suite, a one-bedroom art-filled suite with its own kitchenette, reading nook and veranda with private infinity pool featuring a perfect view of the Aegean sunset.

If the location really were all a hotel needed for success, the Astra would win Santorini's hotel sweepstakes hands down. Perched on the cliffs in a quiet village with a handsome blue-domed church, the Astra has a panoramic view of the Aegean and several offshore islands. And the service is outstanding.

This is one of the nicest places to stay in all Greece... Every detail here is perfect: The floors are paved with handsome flagstones, the windows hung with hand-embroidered curtains, the bath towels luxuriously thick... Our only problem when we stayed here: We didn't want to budge from our terrace, especially at sunset, when the view over the offshore islands is dazzling... The sunsets here are not to be believed, the staff is incredibly helpful, and the village of Imerovigli offers an escape...
...come to ooh and ahh from the Astra's pool and deck, the site of choice for the sunset savvy.

Should you decide to wed on Santorini, check into Astra. Manager George Karagiannis can arrange everything from bridal bouquets to docile donkeys for the procession.
... a small, traditional-style hotel in the village of Imerovigli... still quiet enough that at night the loudest sound I heard was the wind...
